BECOME A HEALTH COACH

I still think it's crazy that I'm where I'm at. Just 3 years ago, I never even knew what a Health Coach was. I was just a teacher working my butt off and trying to feed my baby the best possible food I could.

Sometimes things just happen, and if you let them - and embrace the adventures - it can surely be a wild, highly-enjoyable ride. I thank God every day that I was introduced to Zija, which led me being introduced to my friend, Alma, and she inspired me to become a Health Coach.

After seeing how small changes made such a big difference in my own health, I knew I wanted a career helping others live healthier and happier lives. Don't get me wrong, I was passionate about teaching. I loved (almost) every second of it and gave it my all. However, I felt like I was stuck being told what to do and how to do it, even when I knew it wasn't in my students' best interest (common core and high-stakes testing pressures of 'teaching to the test') and I was NOT OK with that. It was a huge moral issue for me, and it's what ultimately made me decide to stay home.

During that time, I was becoming more and more interested in food, thanks to my daughter. Every mom goes through it - the back and forth questioning if this food is bad or if that food is good. When my husband's mother passed away from cancer just 3 months before our wedding, even back then I made the connection that cancer doesn't just happen, and it stayed with me. I knew there was a connection, and I wanted to know what it was and try and prevent my children (and myself and my loved ones!) from experiencing that type of hell (both as a parent and patient).

Thanks to the inspiration from my friend, I decided to attend The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). I graduated in 2014.

I loved the program and I do think it's the best out there for those of us interested in a more holistic approach to health.

If you're passionate about holistic health and dream of a fulfilling career helping others become healthier and happier, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s Health Coach Training Program may be perfect for you!

During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. I absolutely loved that they didn't teach us just about 'calories in and calories out' (FYI, that's not how it works!) but they teach you about every dietary theory out there, such as vegan, vegetarian, raw, dairy-free, gluten-free, carnivore, Paleo, Hunters/Gatherers, Atkins, South Beach, Ayerveydic, Macrobiotics... the list goes on.

My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.

During the one year program you will learn from inspiring leaders in the health and wellness industry as well as experts in business and marketing, connect with an amazing supportive community, and experience a remarkable personal transformation – all through a convenient online platform that makes learning on-the-go possible for anyone. I would have my one night a week to do my modules, all while laying (my then-prego self) on the couch with my iPad. It is so convenient.

Some of the core concepts included in the curriculum:

  • Over 100 dietary theories

  • The modern health crisis

  • Bio-individuality

  • Primary Food

  • Crowding out

  • Deconstructing cravings

  • Energetics of food

  • Food/mood connection

  • Inflammation

  • Digestion

  • Toxins

In addition to this, IIN will also provide you with coaching, business, and marketing skills so that you can share your knowledge with others if you choose to do this work professionally – part time or full time!

IIN is more than just a school…they’re a movement with a mission to improve health around the world. I’m so proud to be part of this mission and community. I’ve covered the basics here, but there’s more to learn.
